Commissioning Work

“Five easy steps will bring that piece of furniture from your dreams to your home.”

STEP 1
After the initial contact is made with the client, a meeting is set up in the customer’s home to determine exactly where the unit will be placed. At this time a design can be made to fit in with the character of the house (wood type, finish, door style) We can also see if there are any conflicts (e.g.; outlets, air vents) that need to be worked out. Some rough measurements will be taken at this time and a rough sketch will be made.

STEP 2
Another meeting will be made approximately one week later. At this engagement a CAD drawing with the estimate will be presented. There is no charge for an estimate. If the client requests the CAD drawing, a fee of $400 or 10% of the estimate which ever is larger will be paid (later applied toward the deposit). If the design & estimate are approved a contract will be written up.

STEP 3
After the contract has been signed and a deposit (½ total, less CAD fee if applicable) has been paid then the materials & hardware will be ordered and work will commence.

STEP 4
We will do three custom color sample boards if a color has not already been found.
Once the stain / color is approved and the next deposit is paid the finishing process will begin.

STEP 5
A delivery / installation date will be scheduled. Delivery of a freestanding piece only requires approximately one hour on site. A full wall – wall, floor – ceiling unit will take 8-12 hours on site. On the day of delivery and installation the balance will be due upon completion.
This is only an overview of the process.
The contract will be binding once signed.

Caring For Cabinets

Your new cabinetry deserves good care!

Cabinetry Finish
The finish on your custom cabinetry meets or exceeds the standards set forth by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA). This finish was carefully selected for its beautiful luster as well as its durability and resistance to moisture and common household chemicals. With proper care, your custom cabinetry will continue to look beautiful for years to come.

After Installation
To remove dust after your cabinets have been installed, wipe the surface with a clean, soft, damp cloth and dry promptly with a second clean, soft cloth. We recommend a non-silicone polish be applied with a soft, clean cloth, wiping with the grain of the wood. (The extended use of wax polishes can result in a wax film buildup, while the use of spray-type polishes that contain silicone can harm the finish.)

Basic Daily Cleaning
Always wipe up spills promptly with a clean, soft cloth. Water-soluble cleaning solutions are best for routine cleaning of your cabinetry. Use a clean cloth dampened with a solution of water and mild soap, such as Murphy Oil Soap or dishwashing liquid.
It is important to rinse the surface with clean water and immediately dry with a soft, clean cloth after cleaning you cabinetry. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, cloths, brushes or pads to clean your cabinetry.
Note: Do not use your dishcloth to clean cabinets. It may contain remnants of grease or dirt that can harm the finish.

Painted Surfaces
For general cleaning, use a dampened cloth of water and a mild dish detergent and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. For stains or marks that are not removed by general cleaning, a cloth dampened with mineral spirits may help. It is recommended that a small inconspicuous area be tested when using any cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaners which contain ammonia.

High Pressure Laminate / Thermofoil / Melamine Surfaces
The surface is easily cleaned with a clean cloth moistened with water and a mild soap solution, wiped with clean water and then dried with a soft, clean cloth.

What To Avoid
Avoid the use of harsh chemicals, powdered cleansers or abrasive pads to clean your cabinetry, since they will dull or harm the finish. Avoid cleaners that contain ammonia, bleach or citric acid. Excessive moisture is one of the worst enemies of any wood and finish. Avoid draping a damp dishtowel or other items over cabinet doors. Always wipe up spills promptly with a clean cloth and dry the surface.
Control humidity. Extremes in temperature and humidity can cause wood to expand and contract — possibly damaging the finish on your cabinetry. A humidity level of approximately 40% is recommended.

Warranty Information

L.A.Custom Woodwork Inc. offers a limited warranty on cabinets and countertops against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of delivery.

WHAT IS COVERED:
Initial repair, replacement (if necessary—LACW’s discretion), touch up and adjustments to cabinet doors, drawers and countertops.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED:

  1. Cabinetry and countertop damage after delivery, particularly from NON-LACW installation, or damage by other sub-contractors on site
  2. Normal wear and tear
  3. Cabinet door and drawer adjustments beyond initial service.

Countertops are to be carefully inspected upon delivery and prior to installation. Warranty work must be allowed for prior to installation. Repairs to damaged tops after installation will be charged based on time and materials.
All cabinet doors are adjustable. Weather conditions and temperatures may cause natural expansion and contraction in the wood, thus doors may need to be adjusted. This is considered normal maintenance and is not covered under warranty service.
Normal everyday use may also require doors to be adjusted periodically. This is also considered normal maintenance and is not covered under warranty service.

Expansion and contraction of wood is a natural phenomenon. It is a cyclical process, meaning that what expands will eventually contract and vice versa. Temperature and humidity variations drive this natural process. Therefore, effects of these phenomena are not covered by this limited warranty.
In some cases, doors, drawers and shelving that require service may have to be brought into LACW’S shop by the customer for repair.
